Day Camp Suspended

Unfortunately, Motion Tulsa is suspending Day Camp operations, most likely through 5/22. Conditions in the US are deteriorating, and local experts are predicting increased danger in our metro area. Should conditions improve more quickly than anticipated, Motion Tulsa will consider re-opening Day Camps, but parents using our services should prepare other arrangements through the end of the school year.

We understand that parents rely on our movement based childcare alternative services, and we do not take this decision lightly. We haven’t had a single service interruption since we started our unique movement based childcare services in 2013, but this worldwide pandemic is something with which we cannot compete.

Summer Camp

We still plan to host Summer Camp, but as we are all discovering, things change by the day. Currently, Summer Camp is scheduled to start as normal, on 5/26/20. However, the following are all possibilities based on local conditions and expert opinions:

  1. Summer Camp starts as normal on 5/26 with modified programming to maximize safety (fewer/no field trips/park trips etc)
  2. Summer Camp is delayed, starting sometime between 5/26 and 7/6 with modified programming to maximize safety (fewer/no field trips/park trips etc)
  3. Summer Camp is not held

Motion Tulsa will ensure that all deposits already paid for camp are applied to camp weeks available or other Motion Tulsa services should we delay/not hold Summer Camp. We will communicate with registered families anytime we have new information that affects Summer Camp

Last call for “open” Equipment Pickup

Today and tomorrow are the last days for open equipment pickup from 8am-6pm. Starting Monday, 4/6, families can still pickup equipment, but will need to schedule a pickup time. Kids are loving their at-home equipment and it’s making our online classes so much fun! Come grab equipment today if you can!

Thank You

We are in this business because of the service that we’re able to provide to Tulsa families, and not being able to provide those services is devastating to us. But from our family to yours, we cannot thank you enough for your support and kindness through this challenging time. We will all get through this, and I know that none of us will ever take a “normal” day for granted again.

To your family’s health,

Motion Tulsa Team

Equipment for today is in!

Only one announcement for today - We just got more Motion Beams and Bars in stock, so we have some today (until they run out). If you need one, please call us at (918)747-5425 and make sure we have them before coming over.

Let’s get that equipment!

Equipment Going fast!

If you’ve attempted to pickup equipment and we haven’t had any left, we’re so sorry! Both yesterday and today we ran out. We’ll have more tomorrow, but please call before traveling across town to pick it up, to be sure we have some ready for you.

The karate kids and parkour kids are loving their equipment! If your kid is using it and you post and pics on your social media, will you tag us? We’d love to see them at home doing their moves!

Monday/Wednesday 5:30pm Parkour change

Wednesdays we will have the 3:00pm 4-6 year old class and the 3:30pm 7+ class, but we will not hold the 5:30pm 7+ class. We initially thought we’d run out of room in our Zoom meeting space, but it looks like our capacity is 100+, so we’re ok to run one class on Monday and Wednesday.

That means Parkour 7+ kids still have 5 classes they can attend per week, M/W @ 3:30pm, T/Th/F @ 4:30pm. We’ll put the 5:30pm class back on the schedule once we’re able to re-open physically.

We understand things are moving quickly and there’s a ton of changes (not just at Motion), to deal with. We appreciate how well our Motion family is dealing with our changes. Thank you!!

Summer Camp Update

Although things in the U.S. may improve by Summer, it’s extremely likely that there will still be restrictions in place regarding social gatherings, etc, and real concerns about safety. Motion Tulsa is hard at work creating a plan that will allow families to still attend Summer Camp but reduce risk and adhere to guidelines that will likely still be implemented.

We should have an announcement hopefully by this week, so if you’re a Summer Camp parent, we have you covered!

Equipment Checkout starts today!

Starting today, Motion Tulsa will be checking out equipment to Karate and Parkour members. Below is a list of items that your child will need, pickup times, and checkout/drop off procedure:

Items by Age/Program:

4-6 Parkour: (1) Motion Beam Trainer

7+ Parkour FUNdamentals: (1) Motion Beam Trainer

7+ Parkour ELITE: (1) Motion Beam Trainer and (1) Motion Bar Trainer

7+ Karate: (1) Wavemaster 2XL Pro, (1) Kicking Sheild, (2) Nunchucks, (1) Bo, (1) Swor

Pickup Times:

Monday-Friday, 8:00am-6:00pm

Pickup Procedure:

The front doors at Motion will be locked, so we need member families to call the front desk @ (918)747-5425 upon arrival and tell us your child’s name, age and program. A team member will then bring your items to your car.

Home Drop Off:

Motion Beam and Bar trainers are 40” long and 20” wide, and Wavemasters are 6’ high, so if you’re worried these items won’t fit in your car, or you cannot make it here to the facility, we will deliver them to your home. Please reply back to this email and we’ll put you on the delivery schedule.

Online Class Length

Our first week of online live classes was a huge success and we can’t thank you enough! We’ll be lengthening classes slightly this week - 4-6 Parkour will be ~20 mins, 7+ Karate and Parkour will be 30-45 minutes. We’re still working out kinks with transitioning from class to class. Once we have that figured out, we’ll be able to run classes at their full length (hopefully!).

Please pickup/checkout equipment for classes! Your child will need equipment for this week’s curriculum 🙂

Online Class Schedule

One challenge Motion Tulsa has is that we normally run multiple classes at the same time, but with the limitation of only being able to run one live stream, we’ve been forced to modify our schedule slightly. For now, we will not be hosting Saturday classes. That time slot is needed for a different live stream service, and for families that chose Saturays over weekday classes, many of the obstacles (timing, distance, travel, etc) are removed.

The schedule for this week, and hopefully moving forward, is:

Parkour 4-6: M/W @ 3:00pm, T/Th/F @ 4:00pm

Parkour 7+: M/W/ @ 3:30pm and 5:30pm, T/Th/F @ 4:30pm

Martial Arts 7+: M/W @ 4:30pm

We’re hopeful that this will be the schedule until we’re able to re-open, but like many things currently, it’s subject to change. We’ll keep you updated. Be sure to join us in class today! Login here :

If you have not responded, please do! It’s extremely important that you let us know if you’ll be continuing in the program before your next billing on 4/1.

Live Class Improvements

We’re getting better and better at our Live Classes! The video quality and audio quality has improved a ton, and our understanding of how to administrate the feed is getting better. Students look like they’re having a blast, and we’re so grateful for their participation!

If you’re a parent and you’ve logged into class with your child, can you take 2 minutes to complete a survey for us? Your feedback is directly responsible for the improvements we’ve made so far, and your participation in this survey would be so helpful!

Here’s the quick, 5 question survey:

TPS Permanent Closure

TPS has closed school building through the end of the year. This means Motion Tulsa will not pickup After School until Fall 2020-21, but instead will provide Day Camps for After School families and those who are not able to work from home.

Camps will be scheduled week-by-week, meaning that while we plan to have camps until Summer, things are changing fast, and we may need to close camps altogether.

Currently, Motion Tulsa has camp scheduled for next week, 3/30-4/3. Register here:

http://member-site.net/?PR--ibJPh

After School accounts

TPS’ closure for the school year means After School accounts may need to be modified. If you’re an After School parent, please reply to the separate email you have regarding your program.

Equipment “Rentals”

Motion Tulsa will begin equipment “rentals” this weekend and next week! We’ll have more details tomorrow, but we are working on a safe pickup/delivery plan for the following equipment:

Karate:

-Bo, Nunchucks, sword

-Kicking Shield, Focus pad, punching bag

Parkour:

-Wood Trainer

-Bar Trainer

We’re VERY excited about getting equipment to you guys for online classes!

Live Classes

Live classes were amazing yesterday! It was so wonderful to see everyone, and of course, to workout and move our bodies! The kids even chatted with each other after class, which was so wonderful - we forget that these are their friends that they used to see all the time, and now they don’t! If Parkour and Karate classes can help bridge that social gap, we’re happy to let them chat!

Broken Links

If you had trouble with our links lately, you were’t alone! The system that sends our emails added some extra code on the backend. That combined with Bitly made the link not work, depending on what device from which you were attempting to access it.

Here are the raw links!

Live Class access:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/MotionTulsaChallenges/

Sorry for the trouble! If you’re still having issues with those links, please let us know and we can help you walk through it. We’re all in this new tech world together!

Equipment Checkout

We’re going to be “quarantined” for a while, but that doesn’t mean we have to stop training like we use to!

So guess what? We’re going to let all of our Motion Tulsa Parkour and Karate students check out equipment at NO COST. We don’t have all of the logistics worked out yet, but we plan to have details fully ironed out by Thursday/Friday and hopefully, equipment can begin going to homes over the weekend or next week.

Karate kids will most likely receive:

(1) Kicking shield

(1-2) Hand Targets

(1) Wavemaster 2XL Pro

Yes, pads and a full blown, free standing punching bag. If you don’t have room for this item, we understand, but if you can house it for the 1-2 months that we will most likely be utilizing online learning, it could be very helpful for your karate kid and they’d love you for it!

Parkour kids, we don’t have enough soft obstacles (stackable vault boxes, soft beams) for everyone to take one home. We’ve been working for over a year with an overseas supplier to create affordable, effective soft obstacles for at home training, but with this crisis, almost all overseas production and shipping has stopped.

So we’re currently working on safe, home-friendly obstacles that kids can use during class and even throughout the day for fun. We THINK we’re really close to a couple of great ideas. We’ll preview them in class today, so make sure you attend Online Class today!

Once we settle on the exact designs, we’ll start getting these items out to families as well.

****If you’re an engineer/DIYer/smarter than we are, and you have suggestions on the design that we’ll preview today in class, please reach out! We’re happy to learn from others if it can help the whole group!

After School/Day Camp

We’re currently still allowed by the state to run Day Camps, so After Schoolers still have access to camp at no additional cost. We are likely going to hear on Wednesday that the state board agrees with the Superintendent’s recommendation to close schools through the remainder of the year. If that’s not the case, we could resume pickup on April 6th, but we’re working on the assumption that schools will close. If that’s the case, here’s what you should know:

  1. Motion Tulsa will hold Day Camps for as long as school is out, until Summer Camp begins or until we feel it’s no longer safe to do so
  2. After School member tuition, like all Motion Tulsa programs, can be cancelled at any time without fees or penalties should you need to
  3. Please be sure you’re registered for After School pickup for Fall 2020! We’re all in a crisis right now, but by Fall, we all hope to be back to normal, and you’ll want normal pickup services again

Here’s the link to sign up online for 2020-21 After School:

Summer Camp

You might be wondering - what about Summer Camp? Will the U.S. still be grappling with this crisis by Summer? We hope not, and we hope that Summer Camp will be able to run like normal, but we can’t predict that yet.

We haven’t made any decisions regarding Summer Camp, but as of now, nothing has changed. If anything changes, we will update you!

That’s it for today - as everything changes, Motion Tulsa is doing its best to keep you updated, but if you have any questions, please reach out! Our members are our family and that means you are our #1 priority!

To our collective success,

Motion Tulsa

Day Camp Tomorrow

Day Camp is tomorrow! Unless you’ve already told us you will not be attending, we are planning to have every After School member at camp. Remember, there’s no additional fee for the next 2 weeks of camp; your After School tuition is covering camp 100%.

You’ll need to use the East entrance (parent pickup door) and ring the buzzer. A Team member will meet you at the door and mark the time you sign your child in. We will not be allowing any adults other than Motion Team Members into the facility until further notice for the safety of the camp.

Kickboxing Temporarily Paused

Although previous updates listed Kickboxing on the Online Schedule, we can’t logistically make kickboxing work in its current format for Online Classes. We are hoping that we are able to open again and go back to normal scheduling soon, but until then we can’t hold classes. Kickboxers, look for additional information in a separate email.

Updated Class Schedule

Parkour 4-6: T/Th @ 4:00pm, Sat @ 9:00am

Parkour 7-12: M/W @ 3:30pm AND 5:30pm, T/Th/F @ 4:30pm, Sat @ 9:30am

It’s been 5 straight days of non stop work, but we’re finally getting close to having our Online Classes up and running!

We need BETA testers! If you are willing to try a quick class with Mr. William tomorrow, please reply to this email and we’ll send you instructions on how to log on. We need helpers!

Once our online class test is complete and we’ve worked the bugs out, we’ll email you specific steps for logging on and participating in classes.

Class times

Once we show you how to log on, your class times for the week of 3/23-27 will be:

4-6 Parkour: Monday & Wednesday 5:00-5:15pm, Tuesday & Thursday 4:00-4:30pm, Friday 4:00-4:30pm

7-12 and 13-17 Parkour: Monday & Wednesday 3:30-3:45pm, Tuesday & Thursday 4:30-4:45pm, Friday 4:30pm

Kickboxing: M/W/F 5:30-5:45pm

After School & Camps

After School members, remember that your tuition now pays for day camp from now until school goes back in session or until Summer Camp starts. It’s looking more and more likely that school will not go back in session. If that is the case, your tuition that originally paid for 3 hours of care after school will now pay for 10.5 hours of care throughout the entire day.

Register for the next 2 weeks to ensure you have a space:
http://bit.ly/TPSClosureCamps
If you are not a current After School member, camps are priced at $159/wk, the lowest price at which we can possibly offer them.

If school is closed or longer than these 2 weeks, we will update our plan and let you know what to expect.

Camp Procedures

Motion Tulsa will be significantly changing camp procedures for Day Camps moving forward until the coronavirus outbreak subsides.

Drop off and Pickup:
The west doors (main entrance) of the facility will be permanently locked and will not be accessible to parents. Please drop off and pick up your child from the east entrance door.

The security code will be OFF, which will mean that the door will be inaccessible from the outside, to prevent access to anyone other than Motion Tulsa Team members.

Parents will need to PUSH THE BUZZER to request access to the facility. A team member will come to the door and sign your child into the facility for you. To reiterate, parents will not sign their own children in. Motion Tulsa team members will record the name of the parent dropping off/picking up and the time of drop off and pickup.

Once a camper is dropped off, the Motion Tulsa Team member will escort the child to wash their hands before they enter the Activity Room.

Parents will not be allowed inside the facility. You must remain outside the facility while your child comes in. We realize this is an inconvenience, but we’re doing everything in our power to maintain the day camps parents need but also keep campers & team members, and everyone else they come in contact with as safe as possible.

Payment:
Payments are not required for active After School members, which will make drop off easier. If you are not an active After School member, please setup an electronic (credit/debit) payment method up with Motion ahead of time so that you can be charged at drop off.

This is all a lot of information and sometimes we may not communicate it as effectively as we hope. If you need clarification, please reply to this email. We’re here to help!

To our collective success,
Motion Tulsa Team

Martial Arts & Parkour At Home

Yes oh yes, we will be doing Martial Arts and Parkour classes at home! While we have the online challenge group that everyone is loving (join here: link), we will host our first ONLINE classes this Monday.

We’ll roll out in phases, with classes starting easy - we want to be sure everyone is able to log on, be seen/heard, etc.

Kickboxing at Home

We’re also planning to have Kickboxing at home! We’ll have more details ASAP, with our first class also planned for Monday

Online Class Goals

Our goals for online classes are for our students and members to continue to learn, move, and be active daily, even if they can’t come into the studio. We may be in this situation for a long, long time, and movement is a top priority when we’re all attempting to stay healthy.

Plus, for parents, it will be invaluable to have “screen time” that’s not a video game or cartoon, but is a structured, focused educational class where they’re learning and moving.

Finally, let’s not forget that for both kids and adults, routine is extremely important. These are uncertain times, but if you know you’ll be participating in your same weekly class with your same weekly class participants, your nervous system will appreciate it!

Online Class Schedule

We intend to keep the same schedule we’ve had, but for next week, 3/23-27, the schedule is as follows:

4-6 Parkour: Monday & Wednesday 5:00-5:15pm, Tuesday & Thursday 4:00-4:30pm, Friday 4:00-4:30pm

7-12 Parkour: Monday & Wednesday 3:30-3:45pm, Tuesday & Thursday 4:30-4:45pm, Friday 4:30pm

7+ Karate: Monday & Wednesday 4:30-4:45pm

Kickboxing: M/W/F 5:30-5:45pm

NOTE: The class times are only listed as 15 minute classes for this upcoming week, because we want to be sure everything is working smoothly. It’s possible we’ll go longer if we see everything is working properly, but we’re starting easy!

We will send information ASAP about how to log on!

New Challenge in the group!

We posted a new challenge in the group, and everyone has been posting their own videos completing the challenges - it’s been fantastic! We want you to participate! Your kids will love it (and we’ve even had some brave parents attempting the challenges). Click here and join us!

---

Challenge Group

Today marks our first online challenge! We will post content regularly to help Martial Arts and Parkour students maintain and build their skillsets outside of the classroom. Check here around noon for your first challenge!

http://bit.ly/MotionTulsaChallenges

We’ll be posting challenges almost daily, so make sure you check it out!

Online Instruction

Just because your ninjas won’t be in class learning doesn’t mean they have to stop learning! Motion Tulsa will host our first completely ONLINE class soon! We’re currently building a complete video studio inside Motion Tulsa to serve you 100% ONLINE classes.

Your ninja will be able to interact with their instructor in real time from the comfort and safety of your home. We may be living through a rough time, but we also have amazing technology at our fingertips!

We’re so, so excited about this! Here’s why:

1) Students with their eyes set on Black Belt or Black Band and beyond will not be held back by the current circumstances. That’s Black Belt/Band “Never Give Up” attitude!

2) Kids are going to be *bored* with “nothing” to do as they’re quarantined in their homes. This will give them something to regularly log onto!

3) Parents are going to love something constructive and fun that’ll engage their kids on a screen that isn’t cartoons or video games.

We will have more information including how to log on (it’s easy), class format, etc tomorrow. Stay tuned!

Day Camp/After School Updates

Currently, Motion Tulsa After School members pay tuition that includes After School pickup and 50% off of Day Camps. We do not know how many weeks parents will need Day Camps or when we will return to after school pickup.

We could go back in 2 weeks as currently projected by TPS, we could go back in 4-6 weeks as some experts project, or as many parents worry, school may be out for the remainder of the year.

Here is what Motion Tulsa After School parents can expect:

We currently have 2 scheduled TPS Closure camps to cover the weeks that TPS has announced that they’re officially closed. These are the week of 3/23-27 and 3/30-4/3. We previously announced that these camps would be $199/wk for non-members and 50% off for members.

However, Motion Tulsa has been working non stop on ways to lower costs to families during this unprecedented time, and have decided that these two two camps, as well as any needed future TPS Closure Camps will be $159/wk for non After School members, and included in the cost of After School for current After School members.

This means if you’re a currently enrolled After Care member at Motion Tulsa, you will not have to pay any additional fees to attend camp from 7:30am-6:00pm M-F for as long as TPS is closed in the 2019-2020 School Year. These camps will be included in your regular After School Care tuition.

Should TPS close for any length of time after 4/3, camps will be held week by week until school opens, or until Summer Camp begins on 5/26.

It’s our goal to make this terrible situation as good as we can for as long as we can; hopefully this helps.

We value member your opinion, so if you have any questions or input, please reply to this email.

Mayor G.T. Bynum today announced the mandatory closure of many local businesses. Gyms and fitness centers are on this list.

Read the official announcement here:

https://www.cityoftulsa.org/residents/coronavirus-covid-19/businesses-closed-under-civil-emergency/

While Motion Tulsa is not a “gym” or “fitness center” and does not operate in the same fashion as these centers, we announced the suspension of classes yesterday. Childcare in the form of day camps for working families is scheduled through this week, and for 3/23-27 and 3/30-4/3.

Register for day camps here:

Additional day camps will be scheduled if TPS continues it’s closure. Day camps are also subject to cancellation based on CDC guidelines, local conditions, and state/local mandates. Keep up with announcements on our COVID-19 update page here:

COVID-19 Updates

Currently, CDC guidelines no not recommend childcare centers close.

Read the CDC guidelines here:

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/community/schools-childcare/index.html

Motion Tulsa has reduced risk by removing access to the facility for anyone other than children in our day camps, sanitizing surfaces throughout the day, and increasing children’s hand washing to 7+ times per day (after each game rotation).

We will continue to update you as needed and when/if our plans change.

We are wishing you and your family safety in this challenging time.

Summer Camp Update

We don’t know how long this will last, hopefully not too much longer, and it’s looking like kids will not have to make up their time away from school in the Summer, so Motion Tulsa is still planning to have 12 weeks of camp like originally planned.

If that changes, we will let you know!

Summer Camp Pre-Pay

Traditionally, we’d have sent an email yesterday announcing our limited time offer to save significant money on Summer Camp by pre-paying your balance. However, even though we fully believe that Summer Camp won’t be affected by this crisis, we feel it’s imprudent to take pre-payments until we know for sure.

Once we feel comfortable that Summer Camp weeks won’t be affected by TPS requirements or any other issue, we’ll open pre-pay ability. We think that could be as early as mid-April.

Summer Camp Open House

Every year, Motion Tulsa’s Summer Camp Open House attracts 100+ families who learn more about our camp, explore our facility, and meet our team face to face. Unfortunately, in this crisis, having 200-300 people gather in our facility is simply not prudent. This means Motion Tulsa is forced to cancel our 2020 Summer Camp Open House, originally scheduled for sat. 3/28.

We are waiting to re-schedule the event if and when we feel, based on CDC guidelines and local conditions, that it is safe. In the meantime, if you have questions that you were planning to ask us at the Open House, please reach out and chat with our team.

We wish your family safety and health in this uncertain time. Even though we know that today and the foreseeable future is stressful and challenging, we are looking forward to a Summer of fun with your campers!

Day Camps for TPS closure

In light of TPS’ closure through 4/3, Motion Tulsa plans to hold Day Camps to support working families both the week of 3/23-3/20 and 3/30-4/3. These plans could change depending on CDC guidance and local conditions. The current CDC guidelines do not yet recommend child care center closures.

Current Day Camp pass holders can attend day camp at no charge, and current After School members will receive 50% off of day camps. Each week of Day Camp is $199/wk. Typically, only Spring Break camp is priced this low (list price for a week of camp is $259/wk), but we’ve decided to price these two camps as low as possible to help parents with this unforeseen cost.

You can register for 1 or both weeks here:

Class cancellation timeframe

Currently, Motion Tulsa plans to be closed this week, 3/16-20 and next week, 3/23-27. Additional cancellation decisions will be made on a week by week basis as we closely watch the CDC guidelines and local conditions.

Take class at home!

Just because your little ninja is at home doesn’t mean that learning has to stop- Motion Tulsa’s instructors will be posting at-home training and challenges for kids to do at home! We’re really excited for this opportunity, because there’s so much *outside* of the gym setting that kids can do to move, learn and play. Not being able to be in a class, but still having access to instruction and ideas will help them explore their own environment and spur creativity that would be otherwise untapped.

Your Input and Support

On this issue, opinions vary widely. Half of our members think we’re overreacting, half think we should have closed a week ago. These are not easy decisions to make, and we sincerely value both your input and your support. Parents have forwarded us emails and kept us in the loop and we are so very grateful for that. We care what your values are as parents and we take your opinions to heart when making these decisions.

We plan to be back to regular classes very soon! Our thoughts are with you as we push forward together. Stay safe, and I sincerely hope you stay healthy!
